Safari with the Nye Family

A week and a half ago Sarah surprised our family with a full day of fun! The day started at Kelley's Berry Farm, down the road from where we live in Castalian Springs, TN. I didn't realize how close we were to such a great berry farm and they even let you pick them yourself! We've been enjoying homemade strawberry treats, thanks to Sarah, for the past week and a half!

Our next surprise stop of the day was about 3 hours away in Alamo, TN, the home of the Tennessee Safari Park. This park is perfect for social distancing since each family stays in their own cars as they drive through a safari full of Zebra, Camels, Bison, Emu, Deer, Llamas, Ostrich, Hogs, Wildebeasts and so many other animals listed here. It was definitely unlike any drive-thru experience that I've ever had. The safari allows you to purchase buckets of feed when you arrive so that you can feed the animals directly out of your car! There were so many great moments throughout the day and I'm so glad that we have photos and videos to remember the day by.

All smiles as we head into the drive-thru Safari park

Someday we'll have to tell Zion just how close he was to a Zebra feeding

These camels couldn't get enough of Sarah and Zion

This guy helped himself to our whole cup of food after a little bit just wasn't enough!

Wild hog crossing...with babies in tow

This ostrich knew how to smile for the camera

Zion didn't necessarily have fun the whole day in the car. He did, however, learn some new moves from the animals!

These bison sure aren't any smaller up close and personal

This llama just wanted to be fed but unfortunately, we didn't have anything to offer him at the time.

Keziah and Elijah enjoyed being able to reach out and pet the animals as they came by for food

I called these two Clarice and Rudolph

This giraffe was a great way to end the drive-thru safari adventure!

We even had a peacock cross our path as we were leaving the Safari Park

A Fun Family Weekend

This weekend was filled with lots of family fun. On Friday night, we went to the Wilson County Fair. We had planned on going on Tuesday night, but as we were heading there it started raining and the forecast didn't look too promising for it to stop anytime soon. Since we live just down the road we decided to change our plans and shoot for Friday night and hope for the best with the weather. Thankfully the weather cooperated and it was a beautiful night with temperatures even feeling a bit mild compared to what they have been recently.

Elijah said the next day that riding this bumblebee with Keziah was his favorite part of the fair.

We all went on the carousel together. Keziah got a little nervous and was clinging on to me once it started moving, but I think she still enjoyed it.

One of the highlights of the fair is of course all of the yummy food that you can't get anywhere else. Bryan had this crazy thing called a Dill Dog which was basically a corn dog with the addition of a pickle.

The kids loved trying cotton candy and funnel cake for the first time.

We stopped on our way out to take a family picture in the giant Cracker Barrel rocker.

On Saturday, we started our morning out by going to Storytime Live at Kiddie Academy of Brentwood. The kids got to meet Curious George and Pinkalicious. They also were able to play on the playground and with the sand table, which they loved. There was a balloon artist and a face painter there as well. Elijah got a penguin balloon, while Keziah got a unicorn hat balloon. Keziah had a butterfly painted on her arm and Elijah had his face painted to look like a pirate. Afterwards, Elijah said he had so much fun at that playground place.

This is Keziah's face lately when we ask her to smile.

Next, we went to Cheekwood Gardens to check out the Storybook Houses exhibit that they currently have. It was our first time visiting this beautiful estate. All of the houses are so cool and we look forward to going back to Cheekwood in the future for other events.
