Our Baby Boy is One

A month ago today, our baby boy turned one.  It's amazing how much our lives have changed in the past year.  This little boy brings joy everywhere he goes.  If I had a nickel for every time I was told that he is a beautiful baby or that he has the best smile or that he's going to be a lady killer with those dimples, I'd be a very rich woman.  Even though I don't have all of those nickels, our lives are so much richer with him in it and I wouldn't trade that for all the money in the world.

About a week before his 1st birthday, Elijah had a photoshoot with Sharon (The Nashville Photogorapher).  He was a great sport and Sharon was able to get some amazing shots.  Here are a few of our favorites.

Elijah really wanted nothing to do with smashing this beautiful cake.  As you can tell by some of the pictures, he was disgusted by having it on his hands and crawled and turned away from it until he ended up sitting in it.  Something that wasn't  caught on camera was when I put some on my finger and put it in his mouth and he shuddered as if he thought it tasted awful.  He has since changed his mind about cake, but his first experience was quite interesting.  Haha.

For Elijah's actual birthday, we were in New York.  In the morning, we had a delicious breakfast with Bryan's dad and stepmom.  I foolishly didn't get any pictures of that, but Elijah had some bites of my delicious pancakes for his birthday breakfast.  After that, we went back to Bryan's mom's house, where her and Eric prepared a wonderful birthday barbecue.  My parents made the drive up to join us, and my cousin Beth made the drive down.  Here are a ton of pictures from our afternoon.

Matching hats!

Baby penguins that Bryan's mom made.

Elijah slowly flipped his cake until it ended up in the high chair with him.

He ate so many of these vanilla wafers that we were surprised he didn't end up with a belly ache!

He had no problem smashing this cake!

                                                               Where did my cake go?!

What's the best way to clean cake off of your messy one year old? Jump in the pool!

I think he liked his balloon!
